Standard Sindhi Braille was given its final form in 2016 by a committee of six under the patronage of the Sindhi Language Authority, and it is taught in schools across Sindh. Here it is in software: type Sindhi and get braille, in both grades, or write in dots and get Sindhi back.

A code in books and classrooms, but not in software
هڪ ڪوڊ جيڪو ڪتابن ۽ ڪلاسن ۾ هو، پر سافٽ ويئر ۾ نه
Textbooks are printed in Standard Sindhi Braille, teachers teach it and blind students read it. A braille code becomes usable at scale when software knows it: when a screen reader can read a page aloud, when a teacher can type a worksheet and emboss it that afternoon, when a book can be converted instead of typed again by hand.
Before this project, liblouis, the open braille library that screen readers and braille printing programs use, had no table for Sindhi in its Perso-Arabic script, and we found none in any other braille software. (The Sindhi braille used in India is written in Devanagari.)
Nothing is invented here: the code is the committee's, letter for letter.
درسي ڪتاب معياري سنڌي بريل ۾ ڇپجن ٿا، استاد اُهو پڙھائين ٿا ۽ نابين شاگرد پڙھن ٿا. پر بريل ڪوڊ تڏهن ئي وڏي پيماني تي ڪم اچي ٿو جڏهن سافٽ ويئر اُن کي ڄاڻي: جڏهن اسڪرين ريڊر ڪو صفحو پڙھي ٻڌائي سگھي، جڏهن استاد ڪو ورڪ شيٽ لکي اُن ئي منجھند جو اُڀاري سگھي، جڏهن ڪو ڪتاب هٿ سان ٻيهر لکڻ بدران بدلائي سگھجي.

معياري سنڌي بريل رهبر, the guide to the standard published by the Sindhi Language Authority, in its section on special signs. Sindhi has more sounds and marks than braille has cells, and the guide said so before anyone put it in software.

ه and ھ: a word the word list does not settle yet is named under the braille, and follows the letter you typed.ه ۽ ھ: جنهن لفظ جو فيصلو لفظن جي لسٽ اڃا نه ٿي ڪري، اُن جو نالو بريل جي هيٺان ڏنل آهي، ۽ اهو اُن اکر تي هلي ٿو جيڪو توهان لکيو.
Tick Poetry for a bait, and put the poet's pen-name in the تخلص box. بيت لاءِ «شعر» تي نشان لڳايو، ۽ شاعر جو تخلص تخلص واري خاني ۾ لکو.
This marks every line as a line of verse, which is right for a bait and wrong for prose. Paste one poem at a time. شعر واري ڳالھ هر سٽ کي مصرع بڻائي ٿي، جيڪا هڪ بيت لاءِ صحيح ۽ نثر لاءِ غلط آهي. هڪ ڀيري هڪ شعر لکو.

Reading braille back into Sindhi is the harder direction. Twenty-five cells carry more than one meaning (a letter, a digit or a mark), and almost always only the cell's position tells them apart. See why.
بريل مان واپس سنڌي پڙھڻ ڏکيو پاسو آهي. پنجويهه خانا هڪ کان وڌيڪ معنيٰ رکن ٿا (اکر، انگ يا نشان)، ۽ لڳ ڀڳ هر صورت ۾ رڳو خاني جي جاءِ اُنهن کي جدا ڪري ٿي. ڇو، سو ڏسو.
A machine cannot replace a transcriber. This software writes the code as the guide states it, but it cannot read. A correct transcription sometimes needs a person who understands what the sentence means, and where this software is not certain it says so rather than guessing quietly. Where it names a word under the braille, that word needs a human eye before the page is embossed.

Using it in class
ڪلاس ۾ ڪيئن ڪم آڻجي
Type or paste the worksheet into the box above, a paragraph at a time. If the class reads contracted braille, tick Grade 2. Before anything is embossed, read the notes under the braille: a word named there is one the software could not settle, and someone who knows the word should check it. Then copy the braille and give it to whoever runs the braille printer, or read the dots off the screen to write it on a brailler. If a cell looks wrong, Report a wrong cell opens an email to Larkode with what you typed and the cells it gave.
A blind teacher can use the page with a screen reader and write in dots with the six-key writer below. Once the page has opened, it also works without a connection.

For someone who already reads braille

A blind teacher may prefer to type dots rather than Sindhi letters. This turns an ordinary keyboard into a braille writer, the same six keys as a Perkins brailler. No braille display, no special hardware. Press the keys for one cell together and release.On a phone the six dots are buttons, laid out in the shape of the cell. Tap the dots you want and write the cell. No braille display, no special hardware.

A raised dot is drawn solid and an unraised position faint, as the guide's own printed font shows them.

Grade 2: writing less than the whole word
درجو ٻيو: پورو لفظ نه لکڻ
A braille page holds far less than an ink page, so Grade 2 shortens 287 words and phrases, set out in seven chapters. Dots 4-5 and then ز, for example, is زندگي: two cells for five. The chapters, with what each holds, are in the technical details.
